In yesterday’s game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a thrilling five-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) thanks to Rinku Singh’s finishing skills.

Rinku’s stunning knock of 21 runs off 10 balls in the final overs helped KKR chase down the sub-par total of 180, along with the contributions of captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s mighty 42 from 23 deliveries. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar could reduce KKR’s run rate, with Chahar taking two wickets, including that of Nitish Rana when he had 51 runs.

Earlier, PBKS opted to bat first and scored 179 for seven on a slow surface, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring an innings fifty of 57 off 47 balls. KKR’s historic spinner Varun Chakravarthy picked up three wickets and gave away just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With this victory, KKR climbed to fifth place in the points table.

After the last ball win against PBKS, KKR climbed to the fifth position in the points table with 10 points. This result made the race for the playoffs more intriguing, as five teams in the middle of the table currently share the same number of points (10).

At the top of the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT) lead the group with 16 points, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in second place, behind GT with three points. The team in third place, Lucknow Super Giants, has a point advantage (11) over the other teams in the table.

KKR’s Rinku Singh has climbed to the 10th position in the list of ost-run getters with 337 runs, while PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan is in the ninth position with 349 runs. There were no other changes to the list.

The Orange Cap, awarded to the league’s best run-scorer, is currently held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, who has accumulated 511 runs in 10 matches. In second place is the young striker of Rajasthan Royals Yashasvi Jaiswal with 477 runs and a strike rate of 160.60.

After his impressive spell of 3/26 against PBKS today, KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy moved up to the fifth position in the list of best wickets taken this season with 17 wickets in 11 matches. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer ohaed Shai currently holds the Purple Cap after taking 17 wickets this season.

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan and CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande also have 17 wickets each, but their economy rates are higher than Shai’s.
