The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the 16th edition of the T20 league on Friday (February 17). The tournament will begin on 31 March 2023 with a match between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, the summit clash will be held on May 28.

The opening clash will be followed by Punjab Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in a doubleheader on April 1, followed by Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals in their first match on April 2, while Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season on the same day.
“The 16th season of the marquee event will begin on March 31, 2023 with a clash between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad,” the BCCI said in a statement.
It was also revealed that there will be a total of 70 league matches in the 16th edition of the IPL. There will be a total of twelve tournament stages. The host cities of IPL 2023 are Mohali, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur and Guwahati. The tournament will return to its old format, with all participating teams playing seven matches away from home. Seven home games.
As last year, the ten teams have been divided into two groups of five teams each. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants are in Group A while Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings are in Group B.
